CIVIL
ROAD & RAIL DEVELOPMENT
Surface miners can be used to shape the road formation to the final design. The fact that the drum is placed centrally under the Wirtgen Surface Miners allows us to accurately cut to a design surface with the aid of the GPS guidance. The Surface Miner can also be used to box out the road to subgrade level without disturbing the foundations under the subgrade.
TRENCHING
Cutting trenches or lowering the floor of water reservoirs is yet another field of application for surface miners. The machines cut the cross-section of trenches or reservoir floors cleanly and with utmost precision, strictly adhering to the specified tolerances. Another advantage of using the Surface Miner to cut trenches is the stable stepped batters that are created with the Surface Miner.
WINNING MATERIAL FROM BORROW PITS
One of our more common services is cutting an area of material to be used as fill at another project location. By using a surface miner, it means significantly less machinery and ancillary equipment is required onsite; the surface miner cuts and crushes the material in one process. The product produced by the Surface Miner is generally an all in product 95% less than 75mm which when conditioned is ideal as a sub-base material or general fill material.
HAUL ROAD UPGRADES
Global offers a full service to upgrade haul roads. The surface miner crushes larger rocks into road base material and mixes the fines on top back into the base. This creates a homogenous road base mix which increases compaction and results in a precise cross section and clean running surfaces..
Global have achieved excellent results in this area, and helped to reduce wear and tear on tyres, axles and chassis on numerous trucks and light vehicles travelling on haul roads. This benefit delivers huge cost savings and reduces downtime.
SUBDIVISIONAL WORK
Global can also perform accurate subdivisional work in areas where rock hardness requires blasting or ripping with dozers. Surface miners are efficient machines for subdivisional work, as the material can be re-used as fill without requiring further crushing. The machine design makes it a perfect suit for terraced levels, accurate surfacing and precise road box-outs or drainage channels.
TUNNELLING
Precise lowering of the floor when increasing the cross-section of tunnels is a typical application in tunnel construction. In the construction of new tunnels, surface miners are used to final trim the floor of the tunnels.
