Yandi Rail Crossing and Road Upgrade

Client: BHP Billiton | Location: Pilbara, Western Australia
BHP Iron Ore have an extensive rail network which runs throughout their Pilbara operations up to Port Hedland. The rail network requires regular maintenance and most recently is undergoing upgrades due to expansion. The access to the rail is often on remote access tracks and narrow rail crossings. To facilitate the expansion, parts of the access roads and crossings need upgrading to allow better access for people and equipment.

GCM mobilised a Wirtgen 2500 Surface Miner (2500SM) to Yandi to assist Austral Constructions in the excavation of a hill adjacent to a rail crossing near Yandi mine site.
